International Business School (IBS) Student Code of Conduct
1. Policy Statement
1.1 The International Business School (IBS) is committed to maintaining a safe, inclusive, respectful and professional learning environment in which all students are able to achieve their full academic potential.
1.2 This Student Code of Conduct sets out the standards of behaviour expected of all IBS students and outlines the obligations that students accept upon enrolment.
1.3 The Code supports IBS’s responsibilities as a higher education provider registered with the Office for Students (OfS) and forms part of IBS’s framework for:
- safeguarding students,
- upholding academic integrity,
- protecting freedom of expression within the law,
- ensuring fair, transparent, and proportionate treatment of students.
1.4 By accepting an offer of a place at IBS, students agree to comply with this Code and with all IBS policies and procedures.
2. Purpose
2.1 The purpose of this Code is to:
- clearly communicate behavioural expectations;
- protect the wellbeing, dignity and safety of students, staff and visitors;
- preserve academic standards and institutional integrity;
- ensure compliance with OfS regulatory requirements, including Condition E1 (fair treatment) and Condition E6 (harassment and sexual misconduct).
3. Scope
3.1 This Code applies to all IBS students:
- on IBS premises;
- during online or blended learning activities;
- while participating in IBS‑related events, placements or trips;
- where off‑campus behaviour may reasonably impact the IBS community or reputation.
4. Enrolment and Student Status
4.1 Students must:
- meet programme entry requirements;
- complete enrolment and re‑enrolment processes accurately and on time;
- keep personal and contact details up to date.
4.2 Student access to IBS facilities, systems, and services is conditional upon maintaining enrolled status and compliance with IBS regulations.
5. Terms of Admission and Fees
5.1 Students are bound by the IBS terms and conditions of admission, including fee payment obligations.
5.2 Failure to meet financial or administrative requirements may result in exclusion in line with published procedures and student protection arrangements.
6. Standards of Behaviour
6.1 IBS students must:
- communicate respectfully and professionally with others;
- refrain from abusive, threatening, discriminatory or aggressive conduct;
- uphold honesty and integrity in academic work, including responsible use of AI;
- respect privacy and confidentiality;
- comply with IBS policies, regulations and lawful instructions.
6.2 Students must not engage in:
- fraud, deceit or academic misconduct;
- harassment, bullying or victimisation;
- sexual harassment, sexual misconduct, coercive or controlling behaviour;
- criminal acts or behaviour that places others at risk.
7. Equality, Diversity and Dignity
7.1 IBS is committed to equality of opportunity and does not tolerate discrimination on the basis of any protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.
7.2 Discriminatory behaviour may include verbal, written, physical or online conduct and will be addressed through formal procedures.
8. Attendance and Engagement
8.1 Students are expected to:
- attend scheduled teaching activities;
- engage meaningfully with their programme;
- comply with attendance monitoring requirements.
8.2 Failure to meet engagement requirements may lead to withdrawal or disciplinary action, subject to fair process and student support considerations.
9. Assessment and Academic Integrity
9.1 Students must familiarise themselves with assessment regulations and programme handbooks.
9.2 Academic misconduct, including plagiarism, contract cheating or misuse of AI, will be investigated and penalised under the Academic Misconduct Policy.
9.3 Students have the right to appeal academic decisions through established procedures.
10. Health and Safety
10.1 IBS owes a duty of care to students and staff.
10.2 Students must:
- follow health and safety instructions;
- not endanger themselves or others;
- cooperate during emergencies.
11. Damage to Property
11.1 Students may be held financially liable for damage caused intentionally or through negligence to IBS property or facilities.
12. Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol
12.1 Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside IBS buildings.
12.2 Possession or supply of illegal drugs is prohibited and may result in exclusion and referral to external authorities.
12.3 Disruptive behaviour caused by substance misuse may result in disciplinary action.
13. Suspension, Exclusion and Expulsion
13.1 IBS may suspend, exclude or expel students for serious or persistent breaches of this Code.
13.2 All disciplinary action will be:
- proportionate,
- evidence‑based,
- conducted in accordance with natural justice,
- compliant with OfS Condition E1.
13.3 Students have access to appeal and complaint routes.
14. Freedom of Expression
14.1 IBS supports lawful freedom of speech and academic debate.
14.2 Expression must not breach the law, IBS regulations, or the rights and safety of others.
15. Protection from Harassment and Sexual Misconduct (OfS E6)
15.1 IBS has zero tolerance for harassment, sexual misconduct, or gender‑based violence.
15.2 IBS ensures:
- clear reporting routes,
- trauma‑informed and fair investigations,
- appropriate interim measures,
- support for affected students.
15.3 Behaviour may be addressed through disciplinary, safeguarding or external processes as appropriate.
16. Data Protection and Confidentiality
16.1 IBS processes personal data in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
16.2 Information is shared only where lawful, necessary, and proportionate.
17. Monitoring and Review
17.1 This Code is reviewed regularly to ensure legal compliance, effectiveness and alignment with OfS expectations.
