Admission Policy

1. Policy Statement

International Business School (IBS) is committed to fair, transparent, inclusive, and consistent admissions practices that support student success and protect academic standards. Admissions decisions are made in accordance with the regulatory expectations of the Office for Students (OfS), the UK Quality Code for Higher Education, and consumer protection legislation.

IBS ensures that all applicants are treated equitably, receive accurate and timely information, and are admitted only where there is a reasonable expectation of successful completion of the programme.

2. Information for Applicants

IBS provides clear, accessible, and accurate information to applicants, including:

  • Entry requirements
  • Programme content and learning outcomes
  • Assessment methods
  • Fees, funding, and refund arrangements
  • Support services and reasonable adjustments

All published admissions information forms part of the applicant’s consumer information rights and is kept under regular review.

3. Use of Education Agents and Advisors

Where education agents or advisors are used:

  • IBS ensures they act ethically and transparently
  • Applicants remain responsible for the accuracy of information submitted
  • IBS retains full responsibility for admissions decisions

IBS monitors agent activity to ensure compliance with regulatory and consumer standards.

4. Criteria for Admission

Admissions decisions are based on:

  • Academic qualifications and prior learning
  • English language proficiency, where applicable
  • Programme‑specific requirements
  • Interview or assessment outcomes (where required)

IBS may recognise prior learning and experience (RPL) in accordance with published procedures.

Admission does not guarantee programme completion and is conditional on continued engagement and academic progress.

5. How to Apply

Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application form
  • Verified academic transcripts or certificates
  • Evidence of English language proficiency, if required
  • Any additional documentation specified for the programme

Incomplete or misleading applications may be rejected.

6. Criminal Convictions

Applicants are required to disclose relevant criminal convictions where they may affect:

  • Placement eligibility
  • Professional accreditation
  • Safeguarding obligations

Each case is considered on an individual basis, balancing risk, fairness, and proportionality.

7. Applications from Minors

IBS normally admits applicants aged 18 and over.
Applications from minors are considered only where:

  • Legal requirements are satisfied
  • Appropriate safeguarding arrangements are in place
  • Written parental or guardian consent is obtained

8. Applicants with a Disability or Additional Support Needs

IBS is committed to equality of opportunity and compliance with the Equality Act 2010. Applicants are encouraged to disclose disabilities or support needs early so that:

  • Reasonable adjustments can be considered
  • Academic and support services can plan appropriately

Disclosure does not disadvantage applicants in admissions decisions.

9. Decision‑Making and Offers

Admissions decisions are:

  • Evidence‑based

  • Made by trained and authorised staff

Offers may be:

  • Unconditional
  • Conditional (subject to meeting stated requirements)

Applicants receive written confirmation outlining any conditions attached to their offer.

10. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

IBS considers:

  • Prior certificated learning
  • Experiential learning

RPL decisions are made in line with academic regulations and awarding‑body requirements.

11. Registration and Enrolment

Registration is completed only when:

  • All conditions of offer are met
  • Required documentation is verified
  • Fees or funding arrangements are confirmed

Failure to complete enrolment may result in withdrawal of the offer.

12. Appeals Against Admissions Decisions

Applicants may appeal an admissions decision where they believe:

  • The policy was not correctly applied
  • Relevant information was not properly considered

Appeals must be submitted in writing within the stated timeframe and are reviewed independently of the original decision.

13. Complaints About the Admissions Service

Complaints relating to admissions service quality are handled in line with the IBS Complaints Policy.

14. Fraud and Misrepresentation

IBS reserves the right to:

  • Withdraw offers
  • Terminate registration

where fraudulent, misleading, or incomplete information is identified at any stage.

15. Data Protection

All admissions data is processed in accordance with:

  • Data protection legislation
  • IBS Data Protection Policy

Information is retained only for legitimate academic and regulatory purposes.

16. Monitoring and Review

IBS monitors admissions data to:

  • Ensure fairness and consistency
  • Identify differential outcomes
  • Support widening participation and access

Policy effectiveness is reviewed annually.
